School-Based Big
Mentor an elementary-aged Little during lunch or recess at school, 2–4 times per month.
We’re so glad you’re considering becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Duo. This isn’t just volunteering – it’s a life-changing relationship. By showing up a few times a month, listening, encouraging, and sharing who you are, you help a child build confidence, discover their strengths, and believe in their future. Along the way, you’ll likely find that mentoring changes you, too – bringing perspective, purpose, and connection you didn’t expect. When you become a Big, you’re helping shape the next generation of leaders in our community and beyond – one meaningful relationship at a time.
Here are the basic steps we need each of our volunteer applicants to complete.
Learn more about the commitment and whether it’s the right fit for you. For your convenience, we have two paths to start you on your journey to become a Big.
BBBSMV staff will send you a full application to complete before your in-person interview. This can be completed online or printed and filled out.
Meet with a BBBSMV staff member at the BBBS office or another convenient place so we can get to know you.
Complete an online Pre-Match Mentor training to learn more about the mentoring process and child safety.
After you are accepted, BBBS staff will work with you to find the best Little for you.
Now the fun begins! Schedule visits or outings with your Little and check-in with our team on a regular basis.
