The City of Davenport AmeriCorps/Youth Corps program has a unique opportunity for Davenport High School Students who are between the ages of 16 - 19. This program provides the benefits of being an AmeriCorps service member (i.e. helping the community, earning educational awards to use for high education, and being supplemented with a bi-weekly living stipend) with career exploration opportunities. 40 Davenport students will be selected from the application pool to participate in this amazing service learning experience. The Davenport Youth Corps Program combines community service, job skills and leadership experience into a unique summer program that begins on May 9th and ends on August 27th.
The 40 Youth “Ameri”Corps will be placed at several different agencies within Davenport and will be directly supervised by an employee with that agency, who will then mentor and teach these students about the career paths and opportunities within that agency. Each student will have the opportunity for a positive and unique experience, while gaining real work experience, mentors, and resume builders. While each student will have a unique experience, every student will be serving towards the same goal: To make the Davenport community a better place to live, work and serve in.
The Youth Corps program is highly competitive. Candidates must first complete an application and seek references from 2 school staff members, which could be teachers, counselors, or coaches. Applicants will then be invited for an interview. After the completion of the interview, 40 students will be selected to attend an Enrollment day with their parent/guardian, where they will sign their service contract and officially become a Youth Corps member.
