Site-based Mentoring

altSite-based Program This program involves matching a child (a “Little”) with a mentor (a “Big”) that is a student at a college or university. The match participates in a one-to-one mentoring relationship in a group setting. The match makes a one-year commitment to spend a minimum of four hours a month participating in group activities on the college campus. All activities are run and supervised by BBBS staff and a site representative. The site-based program is offered at Augustana College, Monmouth College, Palmer College of Chiropractic, St. Ambrose University and Western Illinois University. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the program sites.

The matches meet on average twice a month for two hours each visit. Various activities are planned throughout the campus and show the Littles what it feels like to be on a college campus. Various college campus clubs and organizations will sponsor activities for the group. These activities are done with a Big and a Little matched but in a group setting. Some of the activities that can be done are meeting various sports teams and learning about techniques, making crafts, having scavenger hunts, carving pumpkins, or just hanging out with your Big/Little and playing games outside!
