Modern Woodman of America has awarded BBBS a grant in the amount of $7,500 to become a local sponsor of the National Corporation for Community Service AmeriCorps Program. BBBS has served as a local host site for AmeriCorps since 2007. Currently more than 50 community volunteers are serving a one year service contract to assist the organization in supporting and expanding one-to-one mentoring within a 13 county service area. As a sponsor of the program, Modern Woodman is assisting with the local match requirements of the grant and allows members additional training opportunities in leadership, first aid, project management and marketing/public relations. Modern Woodman is the first local organization to step forward to assist BBBS in hosting this program. The addition of the AmeriCorps program has allowed the organization to significantly increase its impact in high need urban and rural areas, as well reduce its overall cost per match. BBBSMV currently impacts over 1,500 children annually through its coordinated one-to-one mentoring programs. BBBSMV is a donor supported volunteer organization that engages community volunteers and matches them in a coordinated relationship with vulnerable children in need of positive adult influences.
